An example in Europe not only for
the European Capital of Culture, but also for the start of an
unprecedented cross-border construction site: Nova Gorica and
Gorizia are pioneers not only for the prestigious title that
will unite them in 2025, but also for the redevelopment works in
the Transalpina area that will be launched in February. The
interventions-unveiled this morning-include the redevelopment of
Transalpina Square, the modernization of the Nova Gorica train
station and, later, the renovation of the Super 8 and Epic
buildings. Thus, the redevelopment includes the so-called
"Trident" by architect Max Fabiani, i.e., the three strips of
Gorizia's street leading to Transalpina, a symbol not only of
GO! 2025 but also of international cooperation.
The principals of the individual investments related to the
European Capital of Culture 2025 are the municipalities of Nova
Gorica and Gorica, Gect GO-European Group for Territorial
Cooperation, and the State of Slovenia."We are drawing the
history of the next decades: this intervention is something
exceptional today, but it will become habitual in the near
future. It will be a fight against time to finish by 2024, but a
challenging endeavor, because we are really pioneers in Europe
to carry out a public work in two different states, each with
its own regulations and legislation," remarked the mayor of
Gorica, Rodolfo Ziberna. The first citizen of Nova Gorica, Samo
Turel, pointed out that "understanding and tolerance of the
inhabitants of the cross-border area will be required, with the
understanding that efforts will be made to maintain constant
rail traffic, to ensure pedestrian access and parking, and that
road traffic will also be safeguarded."For the plaza part, work
is expected to be completed in November, and for the railway
station in January 2025.
