A borderless and enchanting Patti
Smith sealed the friendship between Italy and Slovenia while
waiting for Nova Gorica-Gorizia European Capital of Culture
2025. Eight thousand Italians and Slovenes attended last night
in the square of Casa Rossa, a few meters from the former border
with Slovenia, the performance in which the icon, priestess, and
goddess of rock music proved once again that she has great
charisma. She was captivating and poetic but precise in
delivering her messages, tracing nature, freedom, dignity of
labor, and respect for people.
It was an hour-and-a-half concert with several quotes from
music giants. Cameo then by Elisa singing "People Have the
Power": "It's a dream to be here," said the Italian singer from
Monfalcone, "Patti, to me, is one of the most essential female
forces on the planet.
The European Group for Territorial Cooperation of Gorizia
promoted the initiative in collaboration with the Municipality
of Gorizia and Zenit Srl.
At the end of the performance, mayors Rodolfo Ziberna
(Gorizia) and Samo Turel (Nova Gorica), accompanied by Gect Go
director Romina Kocina, delivered backstage a tribute from the
city to the American rockstar to thank her for her presence on
the former border: another symbolic moment in the cooperation
between old Gorizia and new Gorica, two parts of the same city.
Among the guests were the two Slovenian ministers, Asta
Vrečko, holder of Culture, and Matej Arčon, contact person for
Slovenes abroad.
