Italy's postwar anti-fascist the
Constitution was written with "great wisdom" and so as to apply
to issues that were unknown at the time, President Sergio
Mattarella told a civic event in Milan Thursday.
He said that mooted reforms to the first part of the
Constitution ignored the fact that "what they want to add to the
text is already clearly implied in the norms, because of the
general and flexible character of their formulation and on the
basis of values and principles which represent their
foundation".
Mattarella was speaking at an event called 'Civic Week'.
