Centrist opposition Azione (Action)
party leader Carlo Calenda said Wednesday that he would travel
to Ukraine next week to bring Italy's solidarity at a tough time
for freezing Ukrainians battling power cuts as the winter
approaches amid relentless Russian missile strikes.
Calenda, who is also the newly crowned leader of a federation
between Azione and another centrist opposition party, former
premier Matteo Renzi's Italia Viva (IV) party, said he had been
invited by the mayor of Lviv at a recent Azione rally and he
would also travel to the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
"I think it is important to bring our solidarity in person at
such a difficult time for the Ukrainians," Calenda said on
Twitter.
He will be in Ukraine from Sunday to next Friday.
